Continuing on with my last post, I asked Rebecca a few more questions. These ones have more to do with the latest fashion trends and just general fashion advice!
1. What are some MUST HAVES for the upcoming season?
WHITE ON WHITE ON WHITE! Monochromatic anything! White pumps are stunning with anything from a cocktail dress to a pair of boyfriend jeans rolled up with an easy tank. A great skater shoe (not like DCs but like a little slip on) is so perfect as your everyday go to. Crop tops are still going strong! But try not to be predictable with that over-sized t-shirt that looks like your just cut the bottom off. These are fine for the beach and running errands but for a fashion statement try a fitted crop top with a slightly high neckline and no sleeves, or even with a racer back. The athletic and fitness look is making a huge impact on fashion right now so go ahead, wear those pink nike's you just bought with your LuLu Lemon leggings and an over-sized see through racer back and pony tail. Speaking of sheer racer backs, little peek-a-boo shirts are great! Sheer tops are great, especially if its a hot day out, this will also help with unsightly sweet marks. Like i said before, white is your friend this year, so stay clear of ketchup at those barbecues. White pants (wide leg or linen), white shoes, white hats, white accessories. Although I haven't seen many white shorts, i'd stick with jean for those, and high-waisted! A great chunky sandal is always good as well.
2. Do you see any major colors or patterns becoming more predominant in the near future?
When it comes to colors of a given season it's always best to take a quick look at pantone.com thats the company who mostly plans the major colors for every season. This season upcoming spring/summer calls for Placid Blue (a pale blue), Violet, Hemlock (a toned done version of a grass green), Sand (which I die for <3 ), Paloma (a fancy way to say light/ hazy grey), Cayenne (a red orange), Freesia (a pretty version of mustered yellow), Orange (but a deep faded orange, not that ugly prison jumpsuit kind), Orchid (which looks amazing with sand), and Blue (which is your gold old classic blue).
For patterns, this is the tricky one, because its very subjective from designer to designer and what look you're into. Floral prints are always a classic stand by for spring and summer along with a good old stripe. Designers like Elli Saab, Hermes, and Stella McCartney were showing florals. Where as Alexander McQueen, and Venessa Bruno showed some of those classic stripes. Overall, prints are bigger and louder this season. If your going to do a floral, do a big floral, and likewise for stripes. The idea of an all over print is also amazing. Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen showed several pant top print sets. Its also great to mix a print thats almost similar. But be careful with this, you don't want to go too crazy and look like you got dressed in the dark!
If your the type of person who's looking for something a bit different from your stand by floral or stripe, look to Valentino, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Paul & Joe, and Miu Miu. Valentino showed showed pieces in embroidered folk art/ ethnic prints. Jean-Charles did several pieces with graphic drawing on them that made it look like someone drew on your clothes, Paul & Joe had some florals but in a way that when you stepped back it looked like the florals blended into each other, almost like a kaleidoscope effect, and Miu Miu is just your classic fun print. The clothes looked at though they were made from your grandmother's wallpaper but in a fierce way! Also graphic prints are great they make a statement in a very stipple way, especially if its in a dress! graphic print dress with a great sandal and a pair of big fun sunnies and your good to go!
3. Do you have any general tips for aspiring fashionistas?
As a general tip, if it makes you feel amazing wear it! If you love that crop top trend but you think they make you look fat and your friend tells you your're crazy, don't listen to them, its just going to sit in your closet and never get worn, trust me I've been there. Also if you feel you need to look your absolute best for something don't try too hard, that's when it starts to look too forced.
