What is green living? Green living means different things to different people but in laymen's terms, living green and sustainably means creating a lifestyle that works with nature and does no long-term damage. This blog post will show you the changes you can make to make your lifestyle greener – with benefits to the environment and your health! Learn how you can make small changes that are eco-friendly and will have a lasting effect. The little changes you make can help make a big impact on the environment. Food 1. Buy local and organic food. Food that is grown without using fertilisers and pesticides that can be harmful to human health and the environment. Food that requires less fuel for shipping – and purchasing from local farmers keeps money in the local economy. 2. Use a water filter to purify tap water instead of buying bottled water. Bottled water is not only expensive, but generates a lot of container waste. 3. Use reusable shopping bags instead of plastic at the super market. At Home 4. Make sure all your light bulbs are energy efficient. The selection of energy bulbs is growing and you will save money on your electric bill! Transport 5. Biking and walking options are great for your health and the environment. Use public transport and, when you can, car share. Spaces 6. Get outside! At the beginning of this year a study found living in an urban area with green spaces has a long-lasting positive impact on people’s well-being – unlike pay rises or promotions which only give a short-term boost. The evidence showed that people within an area with green spaces are less stressed! At Work 7. Printing? If possible, configure your office printer or copy machine so it prints on both sides of the page. 8. If you’re away from your computer for more than 20 minutes change it to sleep mode. Cleaning 9. Switch to eco-friendly cleaning products – look out for products that are biodegradable, phosphate-free and not tested on animals. Cat Litter 10. Switch to a biodegradable cat litter. There are lots of natural alternatives available on the market today, such litters may be made from recycled paper products, or plant based materials such as pine, wheat and corn. Natural cat litters can be disposed with your garden waste as part of your compost and clumps can be flushed down the toilet. Unlike clay based litter that goes to landfill. At Natural and Clean we offer both clumping and non-clumping cat litter with a difference – avoiding all problems that come with conventional cat litters. Both 100% biodegradable with the promise to remove the smell of urine permanently! Safe for pets, people and the plant! This touches on what green living means, but keep in mind more ways are being discovered daily which can apply to green living! This recipe puts a healthy twist on a not-so-healthy treat! Who loves chocolate cake? If you do, I have the perfect idea for you and your family, friends, etc.
Recently, I was reading up on healthy foods and realized that eating healthy sometimes can be hard for me because I love a good old piece of chocolate candy or cake. I came across the idea of chocolate zucchini cake, so I thought I would test it out; and it was (surprisingly) super good-tasting! I made them in cupcake form; that way I could limit myself to just one rather than eating a whole cake. I COULDN'T TASTE THE ZUCCHINI AT ALL, which is awesome because I am not a huge zucchini fan. I used 1 zucchini for 24 cupcakes, although I probably could have used more. You can make your own cake mix or buy some and, before baking, you add the grated zucchini to the mix. I grated the zucchini so it wouldn't be seen in the cake, but you can also just shred it. For an additional touch, you can add nuts to the top right before baking. I made mine like chocolate muffins; but if you want them to be more like cupcakes, you can add cool whip for frosting or even use regular frosting! Do you have any recipe ideas??? Share them with me in the comment section below, by email, or in a guest post! Obviously our world is filled with healthy and unhealthy foods. I personally have a really hard time always eating healthy, but I have discovered some foods that can be easily upgraded to a healthier version while keeping the same great taste!
It’s very hard to change your diet suddenly, especially when you are food addict like me! These are some very simple modifications that will slightly alter your meals and snacks to make a healthier YOU!
Okay, so I used to get SO bored at the gym because I'd just run out of things to stare at; so I'd find myself judging other people, which is ridiculous because I looked far from perfect, panting away on the treadmill going 3 mph. I have a few suggestions for people like me:
2. Weather permitting, work out outside. Going for walks or r uns outside guarantees a change in scenery. You definitely won't be looking at the same old workout machines that you see at the gym day after day!
Varying your workouts makes exercising waayyyy less of a drag!
Do you have any fun workout ideas? Please share! :) I LOVE smoothies and I am going to share my favorite recipe with you guys! It's a berry smoothie that you can modify in many ways to make it your own perfect blend!
The second you feel a cold coming on, grab the biggest bottle of water you can find and squeeze a lemon into it. Drink that in attempt to flush out the cold germs. Next, eat garlic! I know it makes your breath smell and seeps through your pores; but I’d rather chew a piece of gum than have a sore throat! I recommend putting a lot of garlic in your mashed potatoes or sprinkling some over a sliced tomato. The next step seems difficult because you’re already feeling tired, but try working out. Sweat a bit. Then take a steamy shower to clear you sinuses, wash off the germy feeling, and get rid of the garlic smell. Tea (with no milk) really soothes throat pains. Cold beverages and ice cream may help temporarily, but warm beverages are a better fix. Sleep is also REALLY important when you feel a cold coming on. Your immune system recharges during sleep, so not getting enough of it definitely can affect your health. This last thing might sound silly; but like I said, I have tested these things and they do work. Stay positive! If you say to yourself, “Ugh, crap, I’m getting a cold,” then you’re just giving in; but if you say, “No way am I getting a cold!” then at least you’re looking at the bright side and attempting to fight it off! |
