Obviously our world is filled with healthy and unhealthy foods. I personally have a really hard time always eating healthy, but I have discovered some foods that can be easily upgraded to a healthier version while keeping the same great taste!
| 1. Rice White rice is the perfect addition to any meal, especially with a nice sauce poured over it. As good as it tastes, it is actually unhealthy. People who have diabetes or are at risk for diabetes should stay away from white rice entirely because it raises blood sugar levels. Brown rice is a good alternative, for sure! The taste is hardly different, plus it has way more nutrition. Brown rice is loaded with fiber and other helpful nutrients, so why not make the switch? 2. Bread For some reason white bread has always tasted better to me, and I'm really not sure why. Recently, I have only been using whole wheat bread; and I can honestly say, I don't mind it at all anymore. With fewer calories, less carbohydrates, more protein, and more vitamins, why not make the switch? 3. Lettuce The darker the lettuce, the more nutritious. Iceberg lettuce is basically water... it's not unhealthy, but it's not anywhere near healthy. If you usually eat Iceberg lettuce, try romaine! I like the taste much better, plus you just feel healthier eating it! Spinach and other mixed greens are also delicious, too. What's the big difference if you are drowning it in dressing and other ingredients anyways? Why not make the switch? 4. Milk This one may be more difficult for milk lovers. I don't drink milk often at all; I mainly just use it in my cereal so in cases like mine, I would HIGHLY recommend almond milk! It sounds SO strange but it has way fewer calories and much less fat than regular milk, and I can hardly taste the difference. It is completely dairy-free; it has high levels of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. If this switch is too drastic, try skim milk or a lower fat percentage than what you are currently drinking. The tastes are so similar, so why not make the switch? Do you know of any other foods that have healthy alternatives? Comment! :) |
